CCBC Accuplacer Test

Accuplacer placements tests are given to assess students’ level of skill in reading, English, and mathematics. The scores students receive on these tests  provide them and their teachers important information that helps in planning the schedule of college classes. Each campus has an Assessment Center where placement testing is available throughout the year and there is no fee associated with the tests.

Two years ago, Ms. Amy Jubb and the SPHS guidance department started taking students to CCBC to enable students to take the test in a college environment. Why? Because going to the college can help the students take the test more seriously rather than taking the test here in the school library.

Forty students from SPHS went to CCBC to take the accuplacer in two different groups of 20. At 9:30 they got a small tour of the college, then they went to the library to take the test for an hour in a half. After that, they visited the college guidance counselors who told them what they placed from the test. They got their college ID cards, then had lunch and returned back to school at 12:45.

“This is a valuble trip for students because they get their first exposure in a college setting,” said Ms. Jubb.  If students are interested in dual enrollment for their senior year, it is suggested that they take the Accuplacer test.
